West Ham hate figures
Do we always have one?

Was thinking what with Nolan, Reo-Coker, and Lampard that's one for pretty much every season for the last 15 years or so. A recent thing or has it always been this way?

Alex.

Mike Small - there's a name I haven't heard for a long time.

He scored a magnificent goal at highbury to beat the Arse 1-0 - that was a marvelous day - did we take the piss out of them on the day - happy memories of that day

But that victory and the following weeks win over the spuds were the highlights of the season - the rest of it was very poor to say the least.
Seventeen goals I think he scored and from memory all before the new year but after that he was sussed by most defenses and was continually caught offside.

Keen got plenty of stick for quite a while. To a lesser degree I can remember Morley, Martin Allen, Bishop and Mike Small also being derided as well at certain points.

Chapman used to get some stick on a par with what Nolan gets now. I remember an FA Cup game against Notts County where his name was booed by the whole of the north bank when announced before the game, and he got the same throughout the game until he popped up with the winner in extra time.

Always been like it. Derek Hales, Ted MacDougall, Bobby Howe, Jimmy Lindsay. Odd some people now respected got a lot of stick: Clyde Best is one who springs to mind.

Speedie is a good shout as nobody wanted him here in the first place
For obvious reasons
Chapman was largely useless but that's never been a reason to hate a West Ham player. The first night he played for us with Burroughs and Marsh was brilliant if my ageing memory still works

Re: West Ham hate figures
I remember Ted MacDougall getting stick from our supporters, especially after the fight in the shower with Bonzo and because of his apparent lack of effort towards the end of his time with us.

In general, however, most of the players who have received criticism, or collective groans when their name has been read out prior to a match, whilst actually playing for us, has been because they weren't very good, not because they were hated as such.

I seem to remember Kevin Keen getting a fair amount of stick around 1990/91ish - not a hate figure though.

Never had a problem with him myself.

Re: West Ham hate figures
Pixie, you're Dad did not rate Pat Holland that's a long way from hating him though. Back in the day if a player was hatrd he did not play for us for sure.

PS, a friend of mine lives two doors from Patsy Holland who's been there since the mid eighties.

I thought Repka split the fans into two camps. You either loved his gun-ho slightly reckless and sometimes well over the top tackles, decisions etc or despised him for his unprofessionalism .
i thought he was great

Re: West Ham hate figures
Fans always have players they don't rate as the game is all about opinions...

My old man used to think that Pat Holland was dog shit (way before my time, of course) and he actually lives in BOATminster now so he can cunt him off every time he sees him in the town centre...

He loves it...
